Our Unconditional Love For Our Cows

The cows are fed with nutritionally rich fodder grown at our farm organically & are free of any hormones or antibodies. Their feed includes herbs Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Jeevanthi, Tulasi, Aloe-vera, Brahmi, Moringa leaves, and Neem leaves. Cows concentrated feed is based on 6 types of millets and oil cakes (Groundnut, Coconut and Safflower) produced in our bull driven oil facility. Each cow has its own individual mineral licking block, ensuring that Gaumata's has access to all essential vitamins and minerals whenever needed. Calves have the first right to their mother's milk, ensuring they receive it throughout the entire lactation period for optimal health and natural growth. The cowshed is cleaned twice a day & has 24/7 medical support to tackle any emergency. We even treat our cows with music therapy as we play soulful "Om Namah Shivaya" mantra in the cowshed around the clock. Studies suggest music plays a vital role in enhancing the mental as well as physical health of the cows. We Love our cows more than anything in the world.

Inspired by Tradition, Driven by Passion

Basava Gaushala was born from a deep-rooted commitment to natural farming and preserving desi cow breeds, inspired by my grandfather, Shivamurteppa Yalalii. My fascination with desi cows and organic agriculture began at the age of 10, nurtured by childhood vacations spent on my grandfather’s farm. With unwavering support from my parents, Prof. Gurunath Halyal and Smt. Neelagangavva Halyal, and my younger brother, Shivayogi Halyal, this passion transformed into a mission.

In 2014, we began extensive research on sustainable and traditional gaushala management. Our dream materialized in November 2017, starting with just three desi cows. Over the years, Basava Gaushala has grown into a thriving family of 160+ desi cows and a dedicated team of 20 members.

Our mission remains clear—to serve the community by offering pure and natural products while preserving indigenous cow breeds. Through dedication and sustainable practices, we continue to honor this legacy and contribute to a healthier future.

The nurturing force behind Basava Gaushala, her in-depth knowledge & expertise in traditional ghee-making techniques has been instrumental in preserving the authentic taste and medicinal properties of our Natural Desi Cow Bilona Ghee. With a commitment to purity and heritage, she ensures that every drop of our ghee carries the richness of time-honored wisdom and holistic well-being.

The visionaries behind Basava Gaushala are individuals dedicated to preserving indigenous/desi cow breeds and promoting ethical, sustainable dairy practices. Their inspiration comes from the teachings of Basavanna, a 12th-century philosopher and social reformer who emphasized compassion, purity, and the welfare of all living beings.

Guided by these values, Basava Gaushala was founded with a deep commitment to Ahimsa (non-violence) and Gou Seva (cow service), ensuring the well-being of cows and producing pure, natural ghee through traditional methods.
